Announcement from Wellness Editor Tara Parker-Pope:

I’m thrilled to announce that Teddy Amenabar, a longtime newsroom innovator, will be joining our expanding personal health and wellness team as a general assignment reporter.

In his new role, Teddy will write stories on the health topics that readers are seeing, searching and talking about on social media platforms, in comments and in real life. And he will use his extensive experience in audience strategy to help us lean into news moments, discover new ways to deliver personal health information, and create innovative service journalism that will help readers live well every day.

Teddy, who has been a newsroom talent and community editor, brings seven years of experience in The Post’s audience team and a track record for innovation that makes him uniquely suited for this role. As a subscriber engagement editor, he organized and hosted live chats with Post journalists, including a recent Q&A with Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein on the 50th anniversary of the Watergate break-in. He has also helped edit and curate Post Most, one of our largest newsletters, and started a text-message digest for readers to keep tabs on the Summer Olympics. He has been a weekly contributor to Launcher, where he recently wrote about the original Pokémon fans who are now sharing the pastime with their kids, a geography guessing game on TikTok, and what streamers and game developers had to say about the Supreme Court’s abortion ruling.

Teddy also served as the Metro audience editor, contributing to the 2022 Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

Teddy began working for The Post as a summer intern in 2015 and was quickly hired to our comments team, where he initiated several creative projects, including a popular newsletter that highlighted reader comments and a voice mailbox that collected stories from high school students on feeling safer at school. Teddy collaborated with various newsroom teams to help create an Instagram series with college journalists reporting on the 2018 midterms, a Snapchat series called Nerdchat, featuring Post journalists, and he helped The Post establish a presence on Twitch, Reddit and TikTok.

Teddy is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he majored in journalism and worked as a reporter and editor for the student newspaper, the Diamondback. He grew up in Silver Spring, where his passion for journalism and all things Washington Post formed in his youth as an early reader of the comics section and KidsPost. When he is not thinking about how to better engage Post readers, he enjoys running on the C&O Canal with his girlfriend, playing video games with friends and reading fantasy fiction.

Teddy begins his new role today.
